About Mekonta & John Cowen
Mekonta is a web design company in Exeter run by John Cowen. I'm particularly focused on working with organisations in and around Exeter, I am passionate about web design and work hard to deliver robust and elegant websites tailored to each organisations requirements.
My background is in the distinctly non-digital area of Fine Art and I spent many years studying and working as a painter and printmaker. Over time this evolved into digital art and my attentions shifted to building websites. This background means I have a strong focus on the look and feel of a website and awareness of how users will interact with the it.
It is all very well to design a website that looks stunning when it's first launched, but a challenge for that site to still look stunning when content has been added and edited over many months by non-technical site owners.
As website owner you will have access to an Admin area where you can edit, delete or add new pages or images. All the technical work is taken care of behind the scenes so you don't have to even think about it.
Almost all websites I build use Expression Engine CMS. It is a powerful Content Management System that allows almost unlimited flexibility for putting information onto your website. It will also scale very well, so while you might start small, Expression Engine can grow with you, there should be no need for a completely new website to keep up with your growth.
Beyond the work I do at Mekonta, I work for a large commercial organisation as their lead web guy. My responsibility here covers 12 websites, and the planning, design, optimisation and ongoing maintenance required for them.
In addition to designing and building a website, I am also available to work on individual aspects, whether that be planning, design, build or optimisation phases of your website.
If you're mildly curious about what I can offer to an existing website, I offer a free Web Clinic. In short I spend about 10 minutes looking at your website and another 20 minutes writing up a brief proposal of how it might be improved. It's a no-obligation affair.
